Senior Flight Test
Engineer
Sikorsky Aircraft is seeking highly experienced flight test engineers to join
the team at its world-class Development Flight Center in West Palm Beach,
Florida. The company is currently performing and preparing for numerous major
flight test programs including the S-76™,
CH-53K heavy lift helicopter, as well as various commercial and military upgrade
projects, and soon will start the S97 Raider™ program, Sikorsky's next generation helicopter
based on X2 Technology™. Flight test engineers with a proven history of
technical excellence are needed to meet our current demand and support the
company's long-term objectives.
Senior Flight Test Engineer is responsible for safe and efficient planning and execution of flight test programs. Major duties include
- Determine data measurement and flight condition requirements necessary to safely provide evaluation, qualification and certification data and prepare test plans.
- Conduct pre-flight and post-flight briefings with flight and ground crews and real-time telemetry monitoring personnel to ensure safe and accurate collection of critical parameters.
- Coordinate and supervise test activities.
- Process and analyze flight data to confirm test objectives have been satisfied. Publish test results in formal reports.
- Work closely with the design groups to gain a comprehensive understanding of, and contribute to the designs of the aircraft. Coordinate trouble shooting teams to resolve design and test discrepancies.
- Maintain and report task schedule and budget status.
- Provide flight test technical guidance to management and design teams. Mentor less experienced flight test engineers.
The job involves significant teamwork and coordination with flight test co-workers in a variety of disciplines (pilots, mechanics, inspectors, instrumentation and data technicians), qualification or certification authority representatives and subject matter expert design engineers. Good interpersonal skills are imperative. Personal flexibility is required to occasionally support unusual working hours and travel to conduct off-site testing.
Flight Test Specialists are needed in the following disciplines:
- Flight Controls and Handling Qualities
- Aircraft Performance
- Structures and Dynamics
- Power Plant Integration
- Special Projects
Successful applicants must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Engineering Science and 5-10 years of Test Engineering or Aerospace Design experience. Advanced degree and project management experience desired. Key skills and knowledge required are: Analytical thinking and problem solving, Communication--written and oral, technical writing, and general aviation knowledge.
