Canada Receives Last SAR Cormorant

The Canadian Forces took delivery of the last of 15 new CH-149 Cormorant Search and Rescue helicopters in July. The aircraft left the Agusta Westland plant at Vergiate, Italy on July 1 and arrived at Canadian Forces Base Trenton on July 15. The 6,500 mile trip included stops in France, England, Norway, Belgium, Scotland, the Faroe Islands, Iceland, Greenland, Iqaluit, Kuujjuaq and Bagotville.

The first Cormorant made the North Atlantic crossing in October, 2001. By March 2004, CH149s will be in service with 9 Wing at Gander, Newfoundland; 8 Wing at Trenton, Ontario; 19 Wing at Comox, British Columbia; and 14 Wing at Greenwood, Nova Scotia.
