Greece Adds Longbow; Spain Opts For Tiger The Greek Ministry of Defense has awarded Boeing a contract for the purchase of 12 AH-64D Block II Apaches with an option to purchase an additional four aircraft. The Hellenic Army will add the next-generation Apache Longbows to its current fleet of 20 AH-64A Apaches which entered service in 1995. Greece is the eighth international customer for the AH-64D. The pact includes the acquisition of the Northrop Grumman/Lockheed Martin Longbow fire control radar, Lockheed Martin Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight (MTADS), support equipment, training services, maintenance support and offsets. Spain, meanwhile has ordered 24 Tiger combat helicopters and became a partner in the Tiger program. Eurocopter expects to begin deliveries of the Tiger later this year to Germany. Spanish deliveries are to begin in 2004. Eurocopter Espana will participate in development of the multi-role HAD version of the Tiger with uprated engines, 30 mm turreted gun, and Mistral air-to-air and Trigat anti-tank missiles.
