The Honorary Lectureship is given to an individual who has a highly distinguished career in vertical flight aircraft research and development and is skilled at communicating his or her technical knowledge and experience.
The basis for the selection includes: the significance of the proposed subject matter for the lecture; the appropriateness of the proposed subject matter to the proposed lecturer; the ability and committment of the lecturer to compose a distinguished archival document to appear in the Journal of the AHS; the outstanding career of the lecturer; and the willingness and ability of the lecturer to present his or her lecture to as many of the Society's chapters and student chapters as possible. The award is named for Prof. Alexander A. Nikolsky, part of Igor I. Sikorsky's team that developed the VS-300 and later a researcher at Princeton University, where he provided information crucially important to rotary wing aircraft designers, and published two books.
