Enstrom Helicopter Corporation has earned FAA approval for a nitrogen-inflated float package on its Model 480B turbine-engined light helicopter. Triggered by a cable release on the cyclic, the floats inflate to 80% full volume in three to five seconds and achieve full inflation in less than 15 seconds.

Floats were never before available for the Model 480B, and the new option expands the capability of the helicopter to over-water applications. The float package is designed and manufactured by Apical Industries of Oceanside, California. Installed weight of the removable package is 106 lb. The permanently installed portion weighs 14.5 lb.
