AHS International
The Vertical Flight Society

The American Helicopter Society (AHS) International is the world's premier professional vertical flight society.

Since its inception in 1943, AHS has been a major force in the advancement of a global rotorcraft industry, marked by rapid technical developments, expanding military capabilities, and commercial applications.

The strength of AHS, as a professional and technical society, is its diverse international professional and corporate membership. Read here for information on becoming an AHS member.

The aim of the society is not only to emphasize and further engineering excellence in traditional rotorcraft platform disciplines, but also expand this focus to the multidisciplinary fields of vertical flight and related support industries.

The AHS is a leader in the vertical flight community. By supporting the needs of today's vertical flight industry and advocating the requirements for tomorrows industry, the AHS will benefit both the military and commercial sectors of the rotorcraft industry.

arrow image Congressional Budget Office Report: Modernizing the Army's Rotary-Wing Aviation Fleet (November 2007). The US Army's rotary-wing aviation fleet numbers about 3,500 aircraft, including utility, cargo, attack, and reconnaissance helicopters. Between now and 2030, the Army plans to modernize the fleet to sustain and improve its capabilities, a task the CBO estimates will have an average cost of about $3.3 billion per year, substantially more than the $2.2 billion per year the Army spent on such programs over the past 20 years. The report analyzes the costs and capabilities of the Army's planned rotary-wing aviation fleet and offers four alternative approaches to modernizing the fleet.
